SKIING IN THE ARMY OF THE AUSTRIA-HUNGARY MONARCHY TO 1914
The army of the Austria-Hungary Monarchy was the first in the Central Europe where introduce unitary ski training of soldiers system. Persons who took main participation in developing this system were: Wilhelm Freiherr von Wangenheim, Oscar Schadek, Albrecht von Österreich, Mathias Zdarsky, Hermann Czant, Theodor von Lerch, Georg Bilgerii, Rudolf Wahl and Oskar Rosmann. The development of military skiing affected significant on movement of skiing and indirect winter mountaineering. Soldier skiers contributed to opening mountain in the winter and they achieved a lot of alpine summits also this with sport’s importance.
